Graveside services for Mrs. Shirley M. Evans, 81, of Los Angeles, CA, formerly of Vidalia, LA were held October 3, 2016 at the Vidalia Cemetery.

Mrs. Evans was the daughter of Clarke and Clara Evans, and was raised by her aunt, Florence M. Lee. She died at the Centinela Hospital in Inglewood, CA.

She was the valedictorian of the Concordia Parish Training School, class of 1952; graduate of Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA in 1956 with a degree in Elementary and Secondary education. She taught at various schools in Natchez (MS) and Vidalia school systems.

Also she was an active member of the Holy Light Missionary Baptist Church serving as Sunday School teacher, President of the Usher Board, organizer of the annual Christmas and Easter plays, Fashion Show Banquets and quarterly barbecue fundraisers.

Her employment included United State Postal Service, United States Naval Base Facility, United States Department of Urban Development in Los Angeles, and a loan specialist.

Mrs. Evans leaves to cherish her memories: four loving children, Monica Renee Bacon, Harold Keith Kimbell, Shawn Sanders and Dawn Henderson all of Los Angeles; one daughter-in-law, Camilla Kimbell; two sons-in-law, Kevin Sanders and Eddie Henderson; Her beloved grandchildren, Keith Jamal Kimbell, Dejon Kimbell, Joshua Lee Sanders, Aaron Silas Henderson and Christopher James Sanders all of Los Angeles. And her "sister-friend" , Bernice Henderson and a host of other family, friends, and the Holy Light Missionary Baptist Church family.
