Funeral services for Sylvester Griggs, 88, of Ferriday, LA will be held Friday, March 27, 2015 at 11:00am from New Morning Star Baptist Church in Ferriday. Burial will follow at the Natchez National Cemetery in Natchez, MS. Rev. Danny Lewis will officiate.

Mr. Griggs, son of James P. and Janie Harbor Griggs was born in Frogmore, LA and died at his residence. He was a US Army World War II veteran and a farmer.

He is survived by twelve children, Russell Griggs and his wife, Linda of Galveston, TX; Larry E. Griggs and his wife, Gladys of LaMarque, TX; Kenneth Griggs of Atlanta, GA; Michael Griggs and his wife, Rose of Texas City, TX; David Griggs and his wife, Sandra of Reseda, CA; Kerry Griggs of Las Vegas, NV; Barbara Whitfield and her husband, George of Marana, AZ; Regina Griggs of Covington, LA; Lorie Griggs of Granada Hill, CA; Sherry Griggs Miller of Mission Hills, CA; Holly Watson and her husband, James of Long Beach, CA; Jennifer White and her husband, Robert of Cleveland, OH; one sister Theresa Williams of Dallas, TX.

Also twenty two grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Virginia Griggs; two sons, Clyde and Sylvester, Jr., two brothers, Willie Cooks and Eddie Cooks; one sister, Beatrice Gsge Carr.
